Yard Sale Finds, Junk Shopping, Crafting & Monday Mornings

Good Tuesday morning friends~ My hope was to be here on Monday morning with this post, as you'll see why later in the post. But as life can sometimes take you down a different path, I'm here today instead of Monday. It's been a busy few weeks with graduation, parties and gatherings. We're finally able to enjoy some lazier-days of summer.
I love spring and summer because that's when all the yard sales start popping up everywhere and though I haven't been to many (I've been to three) I found some nice "new to us" prim and vintage items. I'll start with this wonderful old wood turned bowl.
It has a wonderful dark patina on it. At the same yard sale, I found an old wooden whiskey barrel with the plug still in it. There's even liquid in it but I can't get the plug out so I guess it will have to stay in there. That's outside by the fence that's around our garden.
At another yard sale, I found this great old drop leaf table with spoon feet. It was quite scratched up on the surface so I've started sanding it down to give it a new bri-wax finish. Here's the picture I took just after I started sanding it.
I'm almost done with the sanding. I'm kind of stuck on the detail on the legs, which you can't see in the picture because it's under the drop leaf. Any idea on how to get inside crevices with sandpaper?? Any suggestions would sure be appreciated. It will be nice when it's finished. I'll probably end up putting the table in our open house this fall. As much as I'd like to keep it, I don't have space for it. At the same yard sale I found a hanging candle holder like this one.

This picture is from the web, as I forgot to take a picture of it for the post.
I also found these vintage linen kitchen towels.

They're in great shape, no holes or tears. What do you think? Do they need a little tea dye? ;)
My friend Lynda, and I also went junk shopping one rainy day and here's what I came home with.
This dresser mirror matches my dresser perfectly.

I should have washed it before I took the picture. I really was happy to have found this mirror at such an incredible steal too at $12.00. I also picked up this chopper for $1.00!

Here's some projects I've been working on for the open house.

I put together this vintage framed art using the verses from 1 Cor. 13:4-8a. I made my own background paper using my printer and scroll stamps and distressing inks. I thought it came out kind of sweet. The lace heart and buttons add to the vintage look. Don't forget you can click on the pictures to get a closer view.
A couple of signs...

My hubby brought home some discontinued cupboard door samples quite a while ago and I've been wanting to do something but didn't quite know what to do with them. I saw a painted board or door like this online and knew that I wanted to do at least one of the doors like that.

I still need to put the antiquing glaze over the top of it. Sorry I can't give proper credit here to the person who originally created one of these. I was just scanning through images and found it. I've since seen a couple of them. I'm not a very good painter but this one I thought I could tackle.
I've also been making some cards to have on hand when I need them as my stash was running low.

This one was done using The Homestead "Scene It" set from Cornish Heritage Farms

This one was done using Primitive Beginnings from the Rummage Bin also from Cornish Heritage Farms. It took the same idea and made one to go into a rustic wooden frame I had on hand to give as a gift to a friend of mine.

This next card was done using the stamp of the month stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms. It's their design but I thought it was too cute! I had to replicate it.

Finally, I'll get to why I wanted to post this on Monday as opposed to today. I'm going to try something new on my blog each Monday morning. I'm calling it

I have so many things left over from my website business that I thought I'd try to clear some room. I'm also still wanting to continue making crafts which I just don't have room for, so I'm going to start offering my gatherings of prim goods to my friends online with competitive prices. I'm hoping it will be a good outlet for me to keep busy making things and when I find some vintage treasures to share. Since I missed yesterday, you'll have to wait until next Monday for my very first listings. So, until then I hope you have a wonderful week. Thanks so much for sticking with me through this rather long post. Blessings to all of you~ Birgit

Garden Pic's and a Child's Chair Make-Over

Hello prims~ Just thought I'd pop on and post some pictures of the gardens as we've been getting them primped and ready for the season and also for Christopher's graduation party. His graduation is this coming Saturday and the following Saturday is his party. My hubby and I were working non-stop until my hubby had a bit of an accident and put a sheet of glass through his leg at work. YIKES! He called me one evening as asked if I'd come and take him to the emergency room because he refused the ambulance when the paramedics were at the job. Apparently he was taking trash from a remodel job out of the back of his truck and throwing it into the dumpster. He lost his footing and put his leg through an old storm door and the glass went right into the back of the lower part of his leg. Needless to say, he's had stitches, crutches, is currently doing physical therapy and he hasn't been able to work in the yard with me. I've accepted that it's as done as it's going to get. I'm so thankful that it wasn't worse, especially when I saw how big the piece of glass was. I've enjoyed having him home from work but I don't get as much done around the yard either because I've been spending time with him. I could really get used to the idea of him taking early retirement. hehe! Anyway, here's some pictures of our gardens as they are now.
We'll start on the patio out front... you can see I'm trying to hide the ugly white junction box on the side of our house.

This chair has remnants of old red paint, it sits in our small garden out front.

I tried to go with flowers in red, white and blue but it's hard to find true blue flowers so they're deep purple.

Here's our porch. It's small and cozy.

This is the garden cart I got at a yard sale not too long ago.

This is an old milk crate that I purchased a long time ago. Someone had put legs on it so it stands off the ground. I just love to fill it with flowers.

This is the side of the house where our driveway is.

An old harrow that belonged to my grandfather.

A birdhouse on a small old step ladder.

Moving down back, this little garden we just put in this year around an old apple tree.

It's right beside our vegetable garden. You can see how far my sweetie got before he had to stop working. Half the fence is finished. I guess it will have to wait until he's better able to walk on his leg again.

The lupines are in full bloom on the front banking. We get lots of compliments on all the lupines in the spring.

I'll close by sharing with you a make-over I did on this little folding children's chair I've had in my basement. I had it for sale in my booth at the antique shop but it never sold. Now I'm kind of glad that it didn't. Here's the before picture. I had just started to sand it and then remembered that I needed to take a picture of it.

After.....
It's found a home for now with my old Annie doll, in our living-room.

So, that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Take care and be blessed! Hugs~ Birgit

Getting Ready for Summer

Hello friends~ I've been busy changing things up a bit getting ready for Christopher's graduation party so I've been bringing out the old red, white and blue since those are his school colors. I seem to do everything in bits and pieces, never all at once. Sometimes I get stuck on where to put something or what to do with it, so things seem to hang around longer than I like. I wish I was as good at decorating as all of you gals out in prim blog-land. By the time I'm finished it's usually almost time to change things up for a different season! Oh well, that's just me, slow and pokey to the finish line.
Anyway, here's some pictures of some of the changes that have been going on here.
Here's our big red stepback cupboard with a couple of Americana touches on there.

This window shelf was a cupboard door that I had my sweetie make into a shelf by adding the shelf on the top and shaker pegs to the bottom. The photo's displayed in the windows are evidence of another love of mine, scrapbooking.

The mantel clock on this shelf was given to me by my dad. I have the beginnings of a collection of pewter ~ I'm always on the lookout for new pieces to add to it at bargain prices.

This is the cupboard me and my sweetie built.

This is a little bench in our dining room, it was in our bedroom.

Above our kitchen cabinets

I brought some of these crates up from the basement since I moved the bench into the dining room and moved the other crates from another part of our bedroom. I like the added space it gives.

I know I've posted this picture a lot recently, but I really like how the green fern gives a pop of color to this stack of drawers.

The mantel in our living room.

Just a couple of touches in the mud room.

This is the centerpiece on the table for now.

Guess that's all for now. I'll be posting some outside pictures hopefully soon. Thanks for stopping by for a visit! Blessings~ Birgit
